facial gua sha – stone medicine & cranial gua sha

introduction

Ling Shu, one of the earliest existing Chinese Medicine texts states: ‘all illness is the result of separation from Spirit’, and that, ‘the superior practitioner helps guide the patient to rediscover this connection.’

The exclusive Facial Gua Sha – Stone Medicine treatment was developed by Ziggie Bergman, who has worked within the field for many years having first trained in Japan in 1992. I am excited to be able to offer this truly bespoke treatment having completed my training with Ziggie in London.

what is gua sha?

Gua Sha has gained popularity worldwide for its numerous health benefits and holistic approach to wellness and, more recently, it has become a popular beauty trend on social media. However, traditional Gua Sha is an ancient healing practice that has been cherished for centuries, with its roots in traditional Chinese medicine. Facial Gua Sha, unlike body Gua Sha which is more vigorous, uses gentle techniques, scraping and rubbing the skin with special tools to promote blood circulation and encourage the release of toxins.

what happens during a facial gua sha – stone medicine treatment?

You will lie flat on the therapy couch and made comfortable with pillows, bolsters, and blankets. It is a good idea to wear a vest top so that I can easily access and apply oil to the face, neck and decolletage area.

We begin with some relaxation techniques which incorporate the scalp, neck, and shoulders. Then, your face is cleansed using a natural, plant derived cleanser and luxurious hot towels and facial oil is applied. During the treatment, I work intuitively to ascertain areas of tension in the face, neck, and shoulders. Then, depending on the needs of the client, I use a range of hot and cold stones to stimulate, lift, smooth, and sculpt the face, neck and decolletage. The treatment ends with another hot towel to remove any excess oil from the decolletage (and the face if required) and finally, the closing techniques including solar plexus breathing and grounding to bring you back down to Earth!

Discover the Healing Power of Facial Gua Sha Stone Medicine

Incorporating stones, such as crystals, into Facial Gua Sha mastery enhances the treatment in several ways, setting it apart from other skincare routines. Crystals, renowned for their unique energetic properties, infuse the Gua Sha experience with an additional layer of healing and rejuvenation. These stones not only amplify the effects of the scraping motion by providing a smooth, cool (or warm) surface but also impart their specific vibrational energies to the skin. Each crystal carries its own benefits, from promoting clarity and balance to encouraging self-love and compassion. By harnessing the power of crystals in Facial Gua Sha, practitioners can create a truly transformative experience that harmonises the physical, emotional, and energetic aspects of skincare, elevating it beyond a mere beauty treatment to a holistic wellness ritual.

WHY FACIAL GUA SHA?

How Can Facial Gua Sha – Stone Medicine Help You?

Facial Gua Sha may help to alleviate various types of pain, including muscle tension, headaches, and chronic pain conditions. The scraping action helps to increase blood circulation, reduce inflammation, and release tight muscles.

By promoting lymphatic drainage and circulation, Facial Gua Sha aids in the elimination of toxins and metabolic waste from the body. This detoxifying effect can improve overall health and vitality while enhancing the body’s natural ability to heal.

Facial Gua Sha’s gentle, rhythmic movements can induce a state of deep relaxation, making it an effective stress-relief tool. The release of tension in the muscles and the activation of the body’s parasympathetic nervous system help to calm the mind and promote a sense of well-being.

In traditional Chinese medicine, Gua Sha is believed to not only address physical ailments but also harmonise the emotions. By releasing stagnation and promoting the flow of qi (pronounced ‘chee’), Facial Gua Sha can help to restore emotional balance and uplift the spirit.

cranial gua sha

Cranial Gua Sha is a therapeutic technique also rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, which utilizes the Stone Medicine tools to gently scrape the scalp, head, neck, and sides of the face. It integrates a combination of meridian lines and acupressure points, drawing from a reflexology perspective of the ten zones.

Cranial Gua Sha aims to release tension, improve circulation, and promote overall well-being. By stimulating points along these meridian lines and zones, Cranial Gua Sha encourages blood circulation and the flow of lymph, aiding in detoxification and relieving muscular tightness.

No oil is required for this treatment, making it perfect for when a facial treatment is not appropriate.

This gentle yet effective method can help to:

alleviate pain from conditions such as, headaches, sinus congestion and bruxism
 alleviate symptoms of tinnitus
 reduce facial tension
clear and calm the mind
promote relaxation and aid sleep

Cranial Gua Sha is a lovely stand-alone treatment, but also complements other treatments, such as, Facial Reflexology, Zone Face Lift, or Facial Gua Sha – Stone Medicine, and even combines well with Foot Reflexology or Angelic Reiki. Combined treatments offer a holistic approach to revitalising both the body and mind.
