functional reflex therapy

introduction

Lorraine Senior is a qualified teacher and founder of Functional Reflex Therapy (FRT). Using her experience of working with individuals who have special/additional needs, Lorraine has adapted techniques drawing upon the principles of reflexology to develop the ‘framework’ of FRT. FRT was developed for individuals who have high levels of anxiety, social, and educational needs, autism, and other non-specific communication and learning difficulties.

After qualifying as a reflexologist, I was drawn to training in FRT because of my background and experience as a teacher, working in mainstream primary education. I had felt helpless, as an educator, to address the needs of increasing numbers of children who presented with additional and diverse needs, high levels of anxiety, and difficulty in regulating emotions.  Needless to say, I was excited to discover FRT and trained with Lorraine in Autumn 2021.

what happens during an FRT treatment?

The FRT Rainbow Relaxation is a combination of relaxation techniques which are drawn from the perspective of traditional reflexology. Using color coded steps.

FRT Workshop for Parents & Carers

Perfect for parents, grandparents, siblings, and primary carers in the family home. A lovely bonding experience that you can share with the people in your life who most need it. You will learn about the many benefits of using positive touch, and the practical skills to deliver the hand and foot relaxation routines to your loved ones.

Please note that attending this workshop does not enable you to use this routine in the workplace – this is to be used in the comfort of your own home. Please contact me if you would like to discuss appropriate pathways for using FRT in the workplace.

FRT Workshop for Health Care Assistants

This workshop will prepare you with the skills to deliver the structured FRT relaxation routine, for the hands, in your place of work. The intention is for you to provide a pleasurable, positive touch activity to support the wellbeing of the residents and day centre visitors. You can, of course, also use these lovely relaxation skills with your family in the comfort of your own home.

FRT Workshop for Self-Care

Learn to apply the purposeful touch of the FRT relaxation routine on your own hands. You will be guided through the self-care relaxation activity following the rainbow colour coded steps.

This workshop can be delivered in a variety of settings and is accessible for all abilities and ages. Suitable for individuals, group activities and for larger groups, including school classes. It is also an ideal workshop for support staff.

This workshop is also perfect for groups in the community – coffee mornings, social groups, and children’s clubs, and can be tailored for corporate settings for wellbeing and mental health support.

Please note that these workshops are not part of any recognised reflexology training course and they do not provide you with a qualification. FRT therapists are fully qualified reflexologists who have subsequently attended the 3-day CPD training. Attending the workshops does not give you permission to use the title Functional Reflex Therapist or to teach it to others. If you have enjoyed the learning, please share our details with others!
